We are gearing up for an awesome fall and winter season here at the Foundry Art Centre! From ballets to big bands and blockbuster movies to board games - there is something for everyone (and every budget!) in the upcoming months. Here is an at-a-glance look of what's in store.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30
On the precipice of a major election and in the wake of social justice movements, our exhibition Soapbox will bring together a chorus of voices to present a visual discussion on a broad range of topics, including politics, medicine, morality, religion, societal issues, and other causes. From September 30 - November 11, learn about the causes and issues that affect artists from around the nation. Join us for the opening reception on Friday, September 30 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. Arrive early for a special gallery talk given by juror Michael Fischerkeller at 5:30pm.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13
Our 2nd Thursday series for 2016 comes to a close after a summer filled with fun art-making activities. From 5:30pm - 8:00pm, make art with local artists from our community, enjoy music from local musicians, and have a great time with your friends and family. Classic Red Hots Catering will be back with his signature (and delicious!) hot dogs. As a special treat, Saint Charles Riverfront Arts and the FAC are providing pumpkins for visitors to decorate to celebrate fall. This event is free and open to the public but we will have a limited amount of pumpkins available.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 16
Come to the Foundry Art Centre for an afternoon of fall fun! Free Family Fun Day will feature Halloween-inspired art activities available for children 12 and under throughout the afternoon, from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. Main Street Books will present a spooky story time in the Baue Family Children's Gallery. Children are encouraged to wear their costumes to the event and treats will be given out for especially creative costumes. This event is free and open to the public.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 23
Unplug from your game console and join the board and card game revival at FAC GamePlay! Don’t worry about cleaning your place and buying refreshments – the FAC will provide what you need for a get-together with friends. All you need to do is bring your favorite games, although the FAC will provide a limited game library of the latest games and some treasured classics. Entry is $10 and includes complimentary drinks and snacks throughout the event. No outside alcohol is allowed but guests are welcome to bring additional food. Be sure to bring your smartphone to play a FAC-curated round of trivia using Kahoot in the Ameristar Gallery at 6:00pm. The Kahoot winner will receive not only bragging rights but a gift card, too!
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26
Beat the chill and enjoy your favorite movies with family and friends at the Foundry Art Centre Film Series! The Film Series will kick off with a spooky Halloween favorite, Hocus Pocus. Visitors are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes and trick-or-treat at the Artist Studios on the mezzanine level starting at 6:00pm. The movie will begin at 7:00pm. Concessions (popcorn, soda, and candy) will be available for purchase as well as artfully-crafted treats from SugarBot Sweet Shop in Saint Charles. As part of the Foundry Art Centre’s mission to connect people with the Arts, the Film Series is free and open to the public.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27
Give your writing the boost it needs! Writer's Workshop will encourage and equip writers of all skill levels through the experiences of authors and consultants from 6:00pm to 9:30pm. The evening will feature four local professionals who are involved in literature, either as a writer or illustrator, who will speak on topics like finding resources, pacing your writing, and research. Following the speakers, participants will have the option of a personal consultation with professionals in editing, illustration, writing development and more. The price, $25 per person, also includes cocktails, refreshments, and a coupon for 30% off one available book, courtesy of Main Street Books.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4
We are honoring our loyal FAC members with the first ever Membership Appreciation Party! This members-only event will feature free drinks and food, entertainment by The Buckhannon Brothers, and activities throughout the building for our members to enjoy from 6:00pm - 9:00pm. The FAC Studio Artists will be stamping each member's passport as they travel the FAC map upstairs. Get all the destinations stamped to receive a gift exclusively for our members. Not a member yet? THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10
We've all heard of the "starving artist" trope and it's an expression that does need not be an artist's reality. From 6:00pm - 8:00pm, entrepreneur and businessman Josh Tolley will speak on how artists can turn their artistic practice into a career in The Business of Art seminar. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18
Human beings have always had a curiosity to search for meaning beyond ourselves. Concerning The Spiritual will explore the wonder we seek and artists' interpretations of mystery and incorporeality from November 18, 2016 - January 6, 2017. Join us for the opening reception on Friday, November 11 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. Jurors Michael Quintero and Bob Langnas will give a gallery talk about their selections for the exhibition at 5:30pm.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19
Come join in the holiday spirit at the Sentimental Journey Holiday Concert in the Grand Hall. Known as one of the best big bands in the Midwest, the Sentimental Journey Dance Band is sure to get you in the dancing mood with their wide range of classic music “from the 40’s to the Present,” along with a number of your holiday favorites. Tickets are $20 (only $15 for FAC members) and the concert begins at 7:00pm.
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 30
The Foundry Art Centre Film Series continues with a holiday family favorite, The Polar Express. Visitors can feel free to arrive to this movie night in their holiday pajamas - but we hope you were nice this year because Santa will be there to say hello! Christmas crafts will be available at 6:00pm and the FAC Studio Artists will be upstairs. The movie will begin at 7:00pm. Regular concessions (popcorn, soda, and candy) and hot chocolate will be available for purchase as well as artfully-crafted treats from SugarBot Sweet Shop in Saint Charles. Don your finest tea apparel and join us in the "Land of Sweets" for Mommy & Me Nutcracker Tea! Begin your holiday season with a fun-filled afternoon, 2:00pm - 4:00pm, designed just for you and your child to enjoy. We will start with an elegant tea party of light luncheon fare, including sandwiches and desserts. Main Street's own Olde Town Spice Shoppe will provide special holiday-inspired teas and hot cocoa throughout the event. After the refreshments, sit back and enjoy the wonderful holiday ballet performance presented by Dance Project St. Louis with Common Thread Contemporary Dance. Be sure to bring your camera to take photos with the cast!

One Pulse Entertainment will rock the FAC stage once again with their latest show: Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree! This new Christmas concert special blends equal parts traditional Christmas cheer with good rockin' fun to create the perfect holiday entertainment recipe. With harmonious melodies of caroling, blazing guitar fun, and all the Christmas classics (along with the "new classics"), this show is destined to be a modern annual winter tradition. Tickets are $20 (only $15 for FAC members) and the concert begins at 7:00pm.

Get your family in the holiday spirit with wintertime crafts at Family Holiday Evening! Art projects inspired by the holiday season will be available for children 12 and under. Enjoy hot chocolate and special treats throughout the evening, from 5:30pm, - 7:30pm. This event is free and open to the public.

Meet us in the Grand Hall for one of America's favorite classic musicals, Meet Me In St. Louis!
