For the second year, the Foundry Art Centre presents an all-media exhibition, Context II, focused on the written word’s role in the visual arts. The language of literature can be used in visual pieces literally, symbolically, texturally, referentially, and in many other ways. Opening Friday, August 4, Context II will once again speak to the intersection between visual and written arts in Gallery I & II. Juror Jason Vasser, Missouri Arts Council Program Specialist and poet, will present a gallery talk at 5:30pm before the opening reception at 6:00pm.
Alongside Context II, artist Michael Fischerkeller, award winner from the Foundry Art Centre’s 2016 exhibition Impact, will exhibit his social commentary paintings in Gallery III. Fischerkeller uses imagery from classical painting, combined with modern-day iconography, to create a commentary on global issues such as climate change, gun control, and political spheres. Texas pastel artist J. Howard will exhibit her vibrant artwork in the Ameristar Gallery as part of the FAC’s Emerging Artist Series.
Enjoy food and drinks while chatting with exhibiting artists at the opening reception on Friday, August 4 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. The exhibitions and reception are free and open to the public; each exhibition will open Friday, August 4, 2017 and close Friday, September 15, 2017. Financial assistance for these exhibitions is provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
