About the Foundry art centre

The Foundry Art Centre resides in what was once a train car factory; a 1920’s structure formerly owned by American Car & Foundry. Rather than demolish the 36,800 square foot building, the community of St. Charles worked tirelessly to complete a 2.2 million dollar renovation and opened the regions’ premiere, interactive, interdisciplinary art center in the spring of 2004.

As a vibrant home to the arts, the Foundry Art Centre raises awareness and appreciation of the arts throughout the region. Alive with activity, the Centre’s programming reinforces the importance of the arts and helps ensure that arts and culture remain vital. Artists, patrons, young people and the community at large continually find new ways to interact at this unique facility.

The public’s active participation continues to make the Foundry Art Centre successful in our mission to connect people with the Arts through Exhibitions, Studio Artists, Performances, and Education.

The Foundry Art Centre includes 5,200 square feet of state-of-the-art exhibition space to host international exhibitions. Approximately 6-8 special exhibitions involving a variety of media, curated exhibits, and traveling exhibitions are displayed in the galleries throughout the year.

Artists’ studios with open glass fronts on the mezzanine level of the building allow visitors to see artists at work and interact with them as they create. A variety of media are represented by the studio artists, including oil painting, photography, wheel-thrown ceramics, sculpture, and fibers. Each FAC Studio Artist was juried into their studio. Many of the artists teach classes or lessons out of their studios, visit their classes page to explore what they offer. For a complete listing of Studio Artists, visit our Directory page.

The Grand Hall provides a stage and space for touring performance groups, local productions, and community concerts. Illuminated by hundreds of golden globe string lights, the Grand Hall is a memorable place to experience your favorite music and performers. Past performances include Erin Bode, David Halen, St. Charles Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Wind Symphony, Robert Shaw, Arthur Migliazza, Riverside Shakespeare, Larry Alexander, Citilites West, Carol Beth True, and the Charles Glenn Group.

Classrooms and creative areas on the upper & lower levels provide space for learning opportunities. Throughout the year, both adult and children’s workshops and classes are offered, as well as summer camps, taught by professors and instructors well-known in local and national art communities.
