This class is for adult students (ages 16+) with little to no experience in ceramics. In this series, you’ll learn the basic methods of working with clay including important terminology, tools, hand-building techniques, surface decoration techniques, and have an introduction to throwing on the wheel.

Students will have the opportunity for open studio time during Foundry open hours if needed.  Students will typically complete around 3-5 pieces to fire and glaze, all finished pieces will be available for pick-up 2-3 weeks after the classes.

Open Studio Passes - Clay

This class is only open to students who have taken Ceramic Level 1 (or have approval from the Education and Program Coordinator) and want to continue to build on their ceramic skills. Students will have the opportunity to pursue ceramics in an open studio environment with minimal instruction.  Passes include clay, glazes, and access to the pottery wheels and other tools.    Our studio is essentially a mid-fire studio (cones 5 and 6).  Students can provide their own additional clay as long as it is cone 5 or 6 mid fire clay.  Glazed pottery is usually ready for pick-up in 1-2 weeks but sometimes it is longer depending on the class schedules at the Foundry.

Five Visit Open Studio Pass | 5 Visits during Open Studio Hours | $75

Five Visit Open Studio Pass includes five open studio visits any day that the studio is available for any amount of time during the Foundry’s open hours.  12.5 pounds of white B-Mix clay is included in the pass fee as well as access to all studio equipment, tools, and glazes.  It is recommended that all wet work is finished at the end of the fourth visit so that the last visit can be used to glaze.  Glazed pottery is usually ready for pick-up in 1-2 weeks but sometimes it is longer depending on the class schedules at the Foundry.

Ten Visit Open Studio Pass | 10 Visits during Open Studio Hours | $125

Ten Visit Open Studio Pass includes ten open studio visits any day that the studio is available for any amount of time during the Foundry’s open hours.  25 pounds of white B-Mix clay is included in the pass fee as well as access to all studio equipment, tools, and glazes.  It is recommended that all wet work is finished at the end of the ninth visit so that the last visit can be used to glaze.  Glazed pottery is usually ready for pick-up in 1-2 weeks but sometimes it is longer depending on the class schedules at the Foundry.
