Poetry Out Loud 2019

The Foundry Art Centre announces the St. Charles regional competition for Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest. The competition, presented in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, is part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance, and competition.

Since 2005, Poetry Out Loud has grown to reach more than 3 million students and 50,000 teachers from 10,000 schools in every state, Washington, DC, the US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. On February 13, students from local high schools will participate in the Poetry Out Loud school contest at the Foundry Art Centre. The Missouri champion will advance to the Poetry Out Loud National Finals April 30 - May 1, 2019, in Washington, DC, where $50,000 in awards and school stipends will be distributed.
